The Pittsburgh Steelers are about to go all in on the 2026 season. This will be the last ride for QB Aaron Rodgers, who plans to retire after this year. Pittsburgh has already started putting the final touches on their roster before training camp, including cutting one young offensive lineman.
The Steelers have released offensive lineman Aiden Williams, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Williams signed a reserve/futures deal with Pittsburgh back in January.
The 25-year-old guard played college football at Minnesota Duluth from 2019-24. He went undrafted during the 2025 NFL Draft before signing as a UDFA with the Steelers following the draft. The Steelers waived Williams on August 25th before the 2025 season before re-signing him to the practice squad. But they later waived him after final roster cuts on September 3rd.
Williams briefly earned a spot on Carolina’s practice squad in October. But he was ultimately released just one week later.
Jumping forward to the 2026 offseason, Williams signed a reserve/futures deal with Pittsburgh back in January.
Unfortunately, Williams did not make the cut just before the end of the team’s OTA practices for the remainder of the offseason.
The Steelers will have their final OTA practice on Friday, June 12th. After OTAs, the next big step of the offseason will be training camp, which kicks off in late July. That means Williams came incredibly close to having a chance to prove himself during training camp.
But Williams is far from the only player that Pittsburgh has released before training camp. In fact, the Steelers released wide receiver Brandon Johnson on June 9th, allowing them to claim punter Aidan Laros off waivers from the Buccaneers.
It will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh fiddles with the roster more ahead of training camp later this summer.
