Pittsburgh Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl will interview for the Atlanta Falcons general manger position, according to a report by Mark Kaboly of The Pat McAfee Show.

Weidl has been the Steelers’ assistant general manager since 2022, and has been the right-hand man of Steelers general manager Omar Khan, specifically when it comes to scouting and the draft.

A former offensive lineman at Villanova, Weidl primarily undertook the remanning of the Steelers trenches over the last three draft classes, with the Steelers taking Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu, Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black and Jack Sawyer over the last three years of Khan/Weidl drafts.

This is the first time that he’s been reported to interview for a general manager position, though he has been connected to such jobs in the past.

The Falcons are one of two teams that had a general manager vacancy this offseason. The other was filled when the Miami Dolphins hired former Green Bay Packers assistant Jon-Eric Sullivan.

Outgoing Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot was fired, along with head coach Raheem Morris, on Jan. 4. The Falcons have already replaced Morris, hiring former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, with newly hired Falcons president of football Matt Ryan running that search along with owner Arthur Blank.

Weidl is a Mount Lebanon native and got his start with the Steelers in 1998 as a player personnel assistant under the tutelage of Tom Donahue and Bill Nunn. Since then, he has made stops with the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens before moving to the Eagles in 2016. Weidl helped construct Super Bowl winners with the Ravens in 2012 and Eagles in 2017.

Weidl worked under Joe Douglas while was the vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016-19. Weidl was the Eagles’ assistant director of player personnel from 2016-17 and became director of player personnel in 2019. He took over as vice president of player personnel upon Douglas’ departure in 2020.

The Falcons have also requested an interview with Chicago Bears assistant general manger Ian Cunningham, per NFL Network.
