The Pittsburgh Steelers have suffered multiple defensive injuries in the first two weeks of the season. Mike Tomlin provided an update on those players in his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

For starters, edge rusher Alex Highsmith and defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk have been classified as out with ankle sprains. The following players have been classified as questionable:

  • S DeShon Elliott (knee)
  • DT Derrick Harmon (knee)
  • CB Joey Porter (hamstring)

Elliott and Porter were both injured in the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the New York Jets and missed the Week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Harmon suffered a sprained MCL in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers.

These injuries will open doors for Jack Sawyer, Jabrill Peppers, and Brandin Echols to have bigger roles and cement themselves in larger roles throughout the rest of the season.
