The Steelers addressed the wide receiver position through trade and via the draft this offseason, but they might not be done yet. It is possible the Steelers will add a veteran wideout during training camp, according to Mark Kaboly of The Pat McAfee Show.
With camp a few weeks away, high-profile receivers like Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, Deebo Samuel, Tyreek Hill and DeAndre Hopkins are still unsigned. It does not seem general manager Omar Khan will aim that high, though, as Kaboly notes the Steelers already have a handful of receivers who are guaranteed to make the roster.
Pittsburgh’s list of sure bets includes expensive starters DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., second-round rookie Germie Bernard and special teams ace Ben Skowronek, per Kaboly, who regards third-year man Roman Wilson as a near-lock. Rookie Kaden Wetjen also seems highly likely to make the team after Khan spent a fourth-rounder on him in April. That doesn’t leave much room for a potential summer addition to carve out a role, but the Steelers might shop for depth on the lower end of the free agent market.
On the defensive side, linebacker Malik Harrison‘s roster spot could be in jeopardy, Kaboly observes. The former Raven is going into the second season of the two-year, $10MM deal he signed with the Steelers in March 2025. Injuries limited Harrison to 11 games and a 25.26% defensive snap share in the first year of the contract. While he did make nine starts, Harrison was unable to force a turnover or register a quarterback hit during a 41-tackle season.
With linebackers Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, Cole Holcomb, Carson Bruener and Jamin Davis also in the fold, the Steelers may move on from Harrison in a cost-cutting move. Releasing the 28-year-old would save Pittsburgh $4.75MM. The Steelers, who rank last in the NFL in cap space ($3.19MM), could use the extra wiggle room.
