The Pittsburgh Steelers have made another stride in their head coaching search. Since longtime leader Mike Tomlin stepped down last week, team president Art Rooney II and general manager Omar Khan have interviewed three candidates in person, the latter being former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who the team spoke to on Friday.

The Steelers have also had Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy in to talk to.

Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase, Ejiro Evero and Klay Kubiak are also candidates. Jesse Minter, who the Steelers virtually interviewed last week, took over for the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

The Ravens drafted Weaver, now 45, in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. The Notre Dame product played seven seasons in the league before deciding to take up coaching. He’s worked in such a capacity with the Cleveland Browns and in Baltimore, where he was a defensive line coach and assistant head coach for three years and helped develop defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike.

He joined Mike McDaniel’s staff as the Dolphins‘ defensive coordinator in 2024, and their points allowed went from 22nd to 10th in his first year, before sliding back down to 25th in 2025.

Weaver has also spoken to the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons, the latter of whom landed on former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski as their next leader. After firing Sean McDermott earlier this week, the Buffalo Bills also requested to interview Weaver.
