Behind the Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers made several moves this offseason in terms of new additions. One move that they made internally, though, was moving Broderick Jones to his natural spot at left tackle after two seasons of playing on the right side.
The third-year Georgia product had a great showing in the Steelers’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which garnered praise from offensive line coach Pat Meyer.
“This pre-season, he’s been way more detailed, just in this process and the way he’s approached things,” Meyer said via Tim Benz of TribLive. He’s been a lot better. He came into the league as a young player. [He] didn’t have a ton of game reps at Georgia. Experience is a big part of it. Maturing as you get a little bit older, and seeing how true pros do things and how they approach things. It’s all encompassing with experience, maturity, learning it, [and] understanding.. He’s done a nice job.”
A lot of the Steelers’ potential success depends on Jones’ ability to protect Aaron Rodgers and open up lanes in the run game. If he and the rest of the offensive line play well, the Steelers’ ceiling will be at a respectable height.
