The Pittsburgh Steelers did not make any successful waiver claims, and none of the players the Steelers placed on waivers were claimed by another team.
Notably at wide receiver, Dalveon Campbell was claimed by the Carolina Panthers and Trey Palmer was claimed by the New Orleans Saints. Both of those teams had waiver priority over the Steelers.
All 16 of the Steelers’ practice squad players were on the roster in training camp.
“I thought they were just on the outside looking in,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Wednesday when asked about bringing back 16 of their own players for the practice squad. “That’s what the practice squad’s about. … Excited about the group and excited about their continued growth and development.”
The Steelers signed running back Trey Sermon, running back Lew Nichols, wide receiver Robert Woods, wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams, wide receiver/running back Max Hurleman, tight end JJ Galbreath, guard/tackle Steven Jones, offensive tackle Dylan Cook, defensive tackle Kyler Baugh, defensive end/outside linebacker DeMarvin Leal, outside linebacker Julius Welschof, cornerback James Pierre, cornerback Daryl Porter Jr., cornerback Beanie Bishop, cornerback D’Shawn Jamison and safety Sebastian Castro to their practice squad. They have one vacant slot remaining.
Players on the practice squad are free to sign with other teams at any time. The Steelers have a maximum of 17 slots on their practice squad, which is usually filled by a combination of players the team released and cuts from other squads.
