PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive back Darius Slay exited Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns in the third quarter. Dealing with a shoulder injury, he’s questionable to return.
Slay repeatedly tried to stretch out his right shoulder after walking off the field. He continued to test it as he walked to the blue medical tent on the sideline. He later rejoined DeShon Elliott, Juan Thornhill and Jalen Ramsey on the bench.
Sunday marked the second time the Steelers’ secondary was fully healthy. Elliott dealt with a knee injury he suffered in Week 1, while Joey Porter Jr. had been nursing a hamstring ailment since the same game. Ramsey suffered a hamstring injury during the Steelers’ win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, but a bye week helped him heal up in time to play on Sunday.
The Browns capped the series during which Slay left with their second field goal of the day, making it a 16-6 ballgame with 4:08 left in the third frame.
The Steelers signed Slay, a 13th-year pro, in the offseason. He’d also played seven seasons for the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the second round in 2013, and five for the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he won a Super Bowl last season.
