Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will need toe surgery that will sideline him a minimum of three months, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Pittsburgh Steelers play the Bengals on Oct. 16 on Thursday Night Football in Cincinnati and on Nov. 16 in Pittsburgh. Burrow will be out for both contests.

Injuries continue to be an issue for Burrow, as this will mark the third time in six years that he’s had a major injury. His rookie season was abbreviated due to a torn ACL, and a wrist injury ended his 2023 go-round halfway through November.

Burrow was sacked by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead during the second quarter of Sunday’s game before being looked at by Bengals trainers, limping off and heading to Cincinnati’s locker room. The CBS broadcast showed Burrow trying to get to the locker room on his own, but he eventually needed help from a trainer. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor didn’t have an update on Burrow’s status afterward.

Bengals backup Jake Browning replaced Burrow, going 21 for 32 for 241 yards. Burrow had gone 7 for 13 for 76 yards and a touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase before going off.

Browning stood in for Burrow after the latter injury, posting a 4-3 record. That included a 34-11 loss to the Steelers as Pittsburgh made a late-season surge into the playoffs.

Browning will have two elite wide receivers to throw to in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Chase has recorded 21 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns in four games against the Steelers in his career, while Higgins has posted 41 catches for 697 yards and four touchdowns in eight games against Pittsburgh.
