Pittsburgh Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward was honored by the Professional Football Writers of America as part of the 2025 All-AFC team, the organization announced on Monday. The Steelers’ 36-year-old defensive tackle was also named an Associated Press All-Pro for the sixth time in his career, this season.

Heyward was named a Second-Team All-Pro for the 2025 season. He was also a second-team honoree in 2020 and has been a First-Team All-Pro four times, in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2024.

He is an All-AFC selection for the fourth time, after previously being so honored in 2019, 2021 and 2024.

Heyward was not selected to the PFWA All-NFL team, the equivalent to a First-Team All-Pro. The All-NFL defensive tackles were Jeffrey Simmons of the Tennessee Titans and Leonard Williams of the Seattle Seahawks.

Heyward is the Steelers’ only representative on the PFWA All-NFL and All-AFC teams. Last year, he was joined by Chris Boswell and T.J. Watt.

In his 15th NFL season, Heyward led all NFL interior defensive linemen with 822 snaps this season, 12 more than second-place Leonard Williams of the Seattle Seahawks. Heyward had just 3.5 sacks on the year finished the season tied for ninth among interior defensive linemen in quarterback with 50 quarterback pressures, per Pro Football Focus. He was also tied for second in defensive tackle run stops, with 32, and had the second-lowest missed tackle rate of any interior defensive lineman.

In addition to his 3.5 sacks, Heyward finished the regular season with 78 tackles, nine tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and was tied for second among interior defensive linemen with six passes defended.

The team’s first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2011, Heyward became a starter in 2013 and starting in 2017, has been either an All-Pro or Pro Bowl selection every year except for an injury-plagued 2023 season.

The PFWA has selected an All-NFL team since 1966, and All-AFC and All-NFC teams since 1992. The PFWA conducts separate voting ballots open to all members for the All-NFL, All-AFC and All-NFC teams.

Alan Saunders of Steelers Now is a PFWA member and voted for the All-NFL and All-AFC teams.
