Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward did not hold back when talking about Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

The NFL upheld its one-game suspension for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for spitting on defensive back Jalen Ramsey in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 34-12 win in Week 11. Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward still had some things to say about the situation, though.

“You ain’t know what to do when we had a plan for your ass,” Heyward said on the latest episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward. “People get frustrated, and when they get frustrated, they don’t know how to act and they don’t know how to play football. They took my guy out of the game even though he was playing the right way.”

Chase denied having spit on Ramsey after the game, but video evidence clearly showed that he did. Despite that, he appealed the decision to no avail.

However, Heyward revealed he knew as soon as it happened and did his best to have Ramsey’s back as he got ejected from the game.

“Jalen came to me during that and was telling me he got spit on,” Heyward continued. “So as the captain and as a leader, you want to handle that because it can be misconstrued that Jalen was popping off.”

Chase will serve his one game suspension when the Bengals host the New England Patriots this Sunday. In addition to the one-game suspension, he will also forfeit his salary for the game, which means that he will lose over $500,000 in salary and per-game bonuses.

Chase spit on Ramsey after a fourth-down play where the Bengals tried to draw the Steelers offside in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Ramsey and Chase had been in a scuffle on the previous play, and both players were assessed offsetting personal fouls. After the timeout, they again came together, and Chase spit on Ramsey.

Ramsey then punched Chase twice. Chase was not assessed a foul for spitting on the field. Ramsey was given a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected for throwing a punch.
