PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting Pitt tight end Gavin Bartholomew for a pre-draft visit at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Thursday. Since he played at Pitt, Bartholomew is a local visit and will not count against the 30 pre-draft visits that each team is allowed.
Bartholomew, who measured at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds with a hand size of 9 7/8″, ran an official 4.70 40-time at the NFL Combine. That was fourth-best among participating tight ends, tying with Thomas Fidone II of Nebraska.
Bartholomew did not run the 40-yard dash at his pro day, but he participated in other drills. Steelers tight end Alfredo Roberts was in attendance. The Steelers are in need of a third tight end, so Bartholomew could be on their radar in the late rounds of the draft. He is projected to be a Day 3 pick. In January, Bartholomew was projected to go in the sixth round by the Seattle Seahawks by Dalton Miller of Pro Football Network.
Bartholomew is one of the best blocking tight ends in this year’s draft.

Overall, Bartholomew caught 104 passes for 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns in 39 games during his four-year career at Pitt.
In addition to Bartholomew, the Steelers also brought in Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden, Florida State cornerback Azareye’h Thomas and Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson for pre-draft visits on Thursday.
