Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is changing a long-time trend in the Steel City.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is coming off arguably his best game in the black and gold. However, his impact on the team has meant more than just the numbers he’s putting up on the stat sheet.
Steelers backup quarterback Mason Rudolph couldn’t help but praise Metcalf for his team-first mentality after witnessing a string of diva wide receivers in Pittsburgh.
“He’s earned everyone’s respect. He’s a hard worker,” Rudolph said, via Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He’s really, definitely not a diva. We’ve had some high maintenance guys here before, but he’s a good person to work with.”
The Steelers began to make that change when they traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason after he was a distraction on and off the field.
Many have even criticized Pittsburgh for making the move since Pickens has exploded onto the scene with an already career-high 81 catches for 1,212 yards and eight touchdowns with his new team.
However, Pickens has already proven to be a similar distraction at times in Dallas as he was benched to start one of the Cowboys games this season.
Meanwhile, Metcalf may not be putting up similar numbers to Pickens, but he is still playing a large role in the Steelers offense with 52 catches for 753 yards and five touchdowns himself.
Pittsburgh has dealt with several diva wide receivers over the past several years from Antonio Brown to Diontae Johnson to Pickens, but Metcalf seems to be changing that narrative and for the better.
