PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during his weekly Tuesday press conference that they are open for business with the trade deadline approaching on Nov. 4.

“I think we’re always open for business,” Tomlin said. “Particularly as we get close to the trade deadline. We’re always buyers. We’re always buyers. We’re always trying to position ourself to be the best that we can be this year. But that not only applies to the secondary that you asked about. I’m sure that applies to all three phases of the game.”

The Steelers have several areas on their roster that can be bolstered, most notably at the wide receiver position.

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Saturday that the Steelers are doing everything they can to improve the wide receiver position.

“Pittsburgh. They are scouring the earth for wide receiver help,” Fowler said. “They are looking around. Las Vegas’ Jaokbi Meyers is an option. Teams are calling about Miami’s Jaylen Waddle, but the Dolphins haven’t showed they want to do anything yet, but there could be a receiver moved at the deadline. Pittsburgh could be involved in those conversations.”

Despite ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reporting that veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling had signed with the Steelers after his workout with the team on Monday, Valdes-Scantling has yet to sign with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers have been keeping their eyes out for a No. 2 wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason.

Safety is another position to watch at the trade deadline with DeShon Elliott suffering a significant knee injury in Sunday night’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Steelers are signing former Washington Commanders safety Darrick Forrest to their practice squad, according to a report by NFL Network.

The Steelers also worked out two other safeties on Tuesday, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, bringing Vonn Bell and Eddie Jackson to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
