The Pittsburgh Steelers rank second in the NFL among oldest rosters by averaged age after their offseason acquisitions.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers having a young offensive line, receiver corps, and front seven, what stood out in the offseason was the acquisition of long-time veterans. On Sunday, the Steelers were ranked the second- oldest team by average age.
The Steelers currently have an average age of 27 years and four days. By all accounts, that pointed to the push for veteran, skilled players acquired this offseason. They only trailed the Washington Commanders by 200 days.
The Steelers’ offseason headlined the acquisitions of Aaron Rodgers, Darius Slay, D.K. Metcalf, and Jalen Ramsey. Of these players, only Metcalf is under the age of 30.
Despite this, none of their acquisitions have felt like the typical veteran acquisitions over the years. In 2023, Pittsburgh signed Patrick Peterson and Keanu Neal. After that season, both were released and haven’t played a down since.
Peterson and Neal seemed to be at the end of their careers. While that may be the case for Rodgers and Slay, Ramsey and Metcalf have years left in them.
The big question facing the Steelers in the age category is the contract negotiations with TJ Watt. Additionally, Cam Heyward is nearing the end of his career. Of course, the Steelers’ future at quarterback also remains unresolved.
For now, the Steelers have positioned themselves to compete this season with 12 draft picks on the horizon for the 2026 NFL Draft.
