Steelers Again Among Most-Fined NFL Teams in 2024
Steelers Now Steelers Now

The Pittsburgh Steelers were the third-most fined team in the NFL during the 2024 season, the second straight year they’ve been among the most financially penalized teams in the league.

Steelers players were fined a total of $731,828 for on-field violations during the 2024 season. That was third behind the Houston Texans, who lapped the field with $3.15 million in fines, and the Los Angeles Chargers, who racked up over $900,000 in penalties.

Wide receiver George Pickens was by far the most fined member of the Steelers. He earned fines totaling $90,548 over the course of the season.

Pickens was fined $22,511 for a facemask and unnecessary roughness against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18 and $10,231 for unsportsmanlike conduct for taking off his helmet to argue a penalty call against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17.

In Week 13 at Cincinnati, he was fined twice for a total of $20,462 for a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, one for taunting a Bengals player and the other for mimicking firing a gun while pointing at the crowd.

He somehow escaped a fine, despite getting into a brawl with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II on the final play of Week 12.

He was fined $16,883 for a face mask against the Washington Commanders in Week 10 and $20,461 over two fines against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 — one for his profane eye-black message and another for grabbing Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis by the face mask after the final play of the game.

Only on-field fines from the NFL are released by the league. Pickens could have been fined more by the NFL or by his own team. He reportedly was fined over $200,000 in 2023, between the NFL and the Steelers.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Calvin Austin III, Darnell Washington, Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson, Damontae Kazee, Beanie Bishop and Broderick Jones were also all fined throughout the course of the season. Fitzpatrick and Washington were each hit in the pocketbook twice during the course of the 2024 season.

Following the Steelers, the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys rounded out the top 10.

The Steelers were the most-fined team in the NFL in 2023, with fines totaling $478,091.
