The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to make some noise in the 2026 season. While they aren’t favorites to win their division, Pittsburgh is always a threat to upset the leaders of the AFC North. The Steelers are making moves to improve their roster, and they are looking at a hometown hero to potentially give them a boost.
Pittsburgh has signed former Kansas wide receiver Levi Wentz to its roster. Wentz’ ties to the Steelers run deep, as he attended high school in Pittsburgh. He played for Old Dominion, Albany, and Kansas in college before going undrafted in the 2026 NFL draft. He was initially signed by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason, but was waived after a month.
Wentz played his final year of college in Kansas. He played in 12 games, catching 16 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers are looking to see if they can develop Wentz into a potential contributor for the team in the future.
This season has been quite an interesting one for Pittsburgh. This is the first offseason in nearly 20 years where the Steelers have a new head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down. There was also the Aaron Rodgers saga, where the team did not know until about a month ago whether the veteran quarterback would be returning to the team.
With Rodgers re-signing with the Steelers, Pittsburgh is looking to compete for a playoff spot once again. They missed the playoffs last season, but have consistently been around the playoff picture. It’s not going to be easy for them, not with the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens making big moves this offseason to boost their title chances. However, every Pittsburgh fan knows that the AFC North is extremely volatile, and a few big breaks can help them improve. Perhaps the Mike McCarthy and Rodgers reunion will breathe new life into the stagnating franchise.
