The Steelers announced the signing of wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday. The team also made the previously-reported signing of edge rusher K.J. Henry to the practice squad official.

You can read more about Henry, a former fifth-round pick, here. He now fills Williams’ vacated practice squad spot.

Williams, a 2025 undrafted free agent, spent the summer with the Steelers and was a standout player in the preseason. He made the team’s initial practice squad and has now earned a promotion to the 53-man roster.

Interestingly, the move isn’t a temporary elevation but an actual signing. The Steelers had an open roster spot.

Williams’ signing is likely due to the Steelers being without wide receiver Calvin Austin III due to injury. It’s unclear how long Austin will be out, but Williams could fill in as the team’s primary punt returner in the former’s absence.

The Steelers open AFC North play at home against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
