The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent long snapper Tucker Addington to a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday.

Addington, 27, has been with six NFL teams over his career. He went undrafted out of Sam Houston State in 2020, and didn’t start his pro career until he was selected in the 2022 USFL Draft by the Houston Gamblers.

That got him noticed by the Dallas Cowboys, who signed him later that year after an injury to Jake McQuiade, but Addington was unable to secure the starting job. The Patriots New England Patriots then had an injury, and signed Addington. He played three games before being waived the following August.

Addington then bounced form the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Washington Commanders, back to New England, to the Miami Dolphins, a second stint with the Jaguars, and then the Texans, where he signed on Feb. 17 this offseason and was waived on June 20. Addington played three games with Washington in 2203, one with New England in 2024 and three with Miami last year.

A native of New Braunfels, Texas, Addington played at Canyon High School and then spent four years with the Bearkats, starting as the long snapper all four seasons. After his college career, he coached for Texas Long Snapping.

The Steelers do not have an obvious need at long snapper, with veteran Christian Kuntz established as a starter on a long-term contract, but they almost always take two of each specialist position to training camp

The terms of the contract were not announced. The addition of Addison will bring the Steelers’ offseason roster to 90 players, one short of the maximum of 91.
