The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran offensive lineman Andrus Peat, head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Thursday. His contract is for one year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Peat will be at practice with the team at St. Vincent College on Thursday and will be eligible to play in the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.

The Steelers have been without backup tackle Calvin Anderson, who has been out with a lower-body soft tissue injury. Starting left tackle Broderick Jones is expected to play, but has just recently returned from a groin injury. Rookie Gareth Warren has also been banged up with an unspecified leg injury. He was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday.

Peat, 31, is a 10-year NFL vet. The first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints out of Stanford in 2015, he spent nine seasons in New Orleans. Peat played left tackle and left guard for the Saints and started 102 games out of 111 games played in New Orleans.

A 6-foot-7, 313-pound lineman, Peat started out as a left guard, moved to primarily playing tackle in 2016, then back to guard for most of the rest of his career, before shifting back to tackle in 2023. He was selected to three Pro Bowls, after the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

A free agent last offseason, Peat signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. He appeared in 15 games and made one start for Vegas last season, playing 34 snaps at left guard, 11 at left tackle and 12 as a sixth offensive lineman, per PFF.

In addition to signing Peat on Thursday, the Steelers also signed quarterback Logan Woodside and released guard Nick Broeker and long snapper Tucker Addington. Their offseason roster remains at the maximum of 91 players.
