For the second week in a row, Trey Sermon will be suiting up for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin’s team elevated the fifth-year running back from its practice squad on Saturday ahead of a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin.

Starting running back Jaylen Warren is dealing with a knee injury, but is expected to play against Minnesota.

Sermon played in the Steelers’ 21-14 win over the New England Patriots last Sunday, lining up to return kicks alongside Kenneth Gainwell. That move came after reserve interior offensive lineman Max Scharping was placed on injured reserve and rookie tailback Kaleb Johnson made a costly kick-returning mistake in the Steelers’ Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Sermon has played in 43 games as a pro, including 31 with the Indianapolis Colts. Since being drafted in the third round in 2021, he’s also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

On 134 career carries, Sermon has picked up 505 yards and three touchdowns.

Like last week, Sermon will revert to the practice squad after facing the Vikings. He was signed after a tryout during rookie minicamp, adding some depth to the Steelers’ running back room.
