It’s well known that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith loves to utilize his tight ends. Well, in Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Smith went deep in his bag and called a toss play to Jonnu Smith, which resulted in a 14-yard touchdown run.

Tight end Connor Heyward plunged in for a 1-yard quarterback sneak late in the second quarter, as well.

With both tight end s rushing for touchdowns, the Steelers became the first team to have multiple tight ends rush for a TD in the same game in at least 50 years via ESPN Insights.

Smith utilizes four tight ends — Darnell Washington, Pat Freiermuth, Smith and Heyward. They one of the top teams in the league when it comes to 12 personnel, 13 personnel and usage of extra offensive lineman.

Smith was a part of the Steelers’ blockbuster trade with the Dolphins this offseason. He took the high road when asked about a possible revenge game factor against Miami.

“You always want to go and show up and show out and win, as a professional you have to treat every game with a clear mind and no matter who is in front of you, the goal is to win,” Smith said. “Sometimes we let our emotions get the best of us, that’s not the mindset you want to go in with.”

While he might not say it, I’m sure Smith is thrilled that he was able to score a rushing touchdown on his former team.
