UNITY TWP, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers waited on Aaron Rodgers for a few months this summer. After he decided to play for head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, there were reports that a Rodgers-specific playbook had been in the works.

During a Wednesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers denied there was any such thing.

“I haven’t seen that playbook yet,” Rodgers said. “I’m getting more comfortable as the days go on. There’s not my own playbook and Arthur’s. It’s Arthur’s playbook. I’m finding ways within it to add a little stuff here and there.”

The signal-caller and offensive coordinator had already known each other for a few years, exchanging messages at times.

“Once the opportunity started to become a possibility, we talked more,” Rodgers said. “And he’s just a great dude. He’s the opposite of rigid. He wants to do right by the team and whatever the best scheme is for the guys that he’s got, he’s gonna implement that.”

Rodgers spoke about the Steelers’ pass-catcher situation, one that doesn’t have a cemented No. 2 receiver at this point. The signal-caller will aim to include DK Metcalf as much as possible, but said there could be a tight end-heavy portion of the offense.

“We’ve got a lot of tight ends,” Rodgers said. “We’ve got four great tight ends. We could actually do 04 personnel, which I know is four tight ends on the field. When you can put Jonnu (Smith) and Darnell (Washington) and Pat (Freiermuth) and Connor (Heyward) on the field, it’s pretty special. He’s great at using the skills that these guys have and implementing them in the offense.”
