Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers opened their season with a 34-32 victory over the New York Jets. In his debut with the team, Rodgers showed he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

The quarterback completed 22-of-30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Rodgers helped counter every punch the Jets threw. Furthermore, he proved he is able to handle offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s game plan without a hitch.

There was plenty of discussion surrounding the communication level between Rodgers and his OC. But after their Week 1 showing, Rodgers had nothing but glowing remarks about Smith, via Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“Aaron Rodgers says on the field postgame ‘there’s a lot of garbage being talked” about himself and Arthur Smith’s relationship and how they’d coexist,” Batko wrote. “He adds Smith called a great game and he needs to play a little better.”

Rodgers began his tenure with the Steelers by orchestrating a 10-play, 71 scoring drive, capped off with him finding Ben Skowronek for a 22-yard touchdown. Both sides continued to battle from there, with the Jets holding a slim 19-17 lead at halftime.

New Work would strike again with a touchdown in the third quarterback, but Pittsburgh used a 17-6 fourth-quarterback advantage to earn the victory. Rodgers’ final touchdown pass was a 18-yarder to Calvin Austin that put the team up 31-26. Chris Boswell managed to sink a 60-yard field goal to ultimately earn the victory.

While it was an impressive debut, Rodgers must prove he can still be consistent with the Steelers. One thing is for sure, though, he isn’t questioning the offensive acumen Smith brings to the table.
