The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have struck gold with one of their picks from the 2025 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh Steelers Omar Khan is believed to have had a few strong drafts since taking over as general manager, and the latest All-Rookie Team proves just that.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic recently named Steelers’ Derrick Harmon as a runner up at defensive tackle on his NFL midseason All-Rookie Team, behind only Buffalo Bills’ Deone Walker.
“Despite missing the first two weeks because of a preseason injury, Harmon has quickly established himself as a vital part of the Steelers’ defensive front,” Brugler wrote. “The first-rounder out of Oregon did a great job against Indianapolis in Week 9 using his long arms to move blockers against their will and constrict run lanes, which contributed to a quiet day for Jonathan Taylor.”
Harmon, Pittsburgh’s first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, did have a slow start to his NFL career after suffering a knee injury before the regular season kicked off. However, he has since proven to be more than worth the No. 21 overall selection.
Since returning from his injury, Harmon has recorded 13 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed, and leads all rookie interior defensive linemen with 15 pressures.
Harmon had similar success during his collegiate career at Michigan State (2021-23) and Oregon (2024), racking up 114 tackles, 8.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and four passes defensed during the span. His play seems to be translating quite well at the next level, too.
Steelers defensive tackle Yahya Black also earned himself an honorable mention to the NFL midseason All-Rookie Team thanks to his growing role in their defense.
The No. 164 overall pick in the fifth-round of this year’s draft helped fill Harmon’s void to start the season and has already proven to be an impressive run defender as well.
