Rams head coach Sean McVay told the media on Thursday that if the team had a real game to play this weekend that quarterback Matthew Stafford would be cleared to start. This is a relief to all Rams fans after weeks of speculation that Stafford’s back injury, a herniated disc, could cause him to miss the first week of the season against the Houston Texans.
This is good news for Stafford’s current health and how concerned McVay is about aggravating the injury if he had to play this week, but does not quite get L.A. past the potential problem of this bothering the quarterback for the entirety of the 2025 season.
McVay says that Stafford work have a workout on Saturday and then return to practice on Monday, should nothing go wrong over the weekend. Having Stafford practicing with the team at full-go next week would certainly put those concerns to bed, for now.
