Baltimore Beatdown reacts to the report of the Baltimore Ravens signing OC Todd Monken to an extension.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Baltimore Ravens are finalizing a contract extension for Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken. Reactions from the Beatdown staff are below.

The addition of Monken amplified Lamar Jackson in his first season, and earned him MVP. In Year 2 under Monken, he delivered yet another MVP season and the offensive became record-setting. The Ravens needed to retain Monken, but it wasn’t up to them with regard to other teams calling. Fortunately, Monken is returning to lead a star-offense into the “3.0” version Head Coach John Harbaugh expressed excitement for at the end-of-season press conference.

Many Ravens saw single-season bests under Monken. The loss of Monken would’ve hamstrung the Ravens. Instead. They retain a great coordinator and coach, and look to conquer the conference in 2025. — Kyle Phoenix

Keep your call sheets in your waistbands, folks: Todd Monken has signed a contract extension with the Ravens. After two of the best offensive seasons in franchise (and arguably league) history, there’s no question that John Harbaugh found the right man for the job in 2023. Salaries for coaches, especially assistants, can be tough to track down, but Monken was believed to be among the highest-paid offensive coordinators in the league. He may be on his own at the top of the market now. His success in Baltimore should keep him in contention for head-coaching gigs in the future after interviewing with the Raiders, Jaguars, and Bears this offseason. However, Steve Bisciotti will be hoping that Monken’s salary and security with the Ravens will at least make him pickier about taking a HC job elsewhere. At 58, Monken probably only has one shot left. That might be an argument for taking the first opportunity he can get, but with such a strong contract and roster in Baltimore, it might cause him to wait another year or two for the best opportunity. —Nikhil Mehta

This potentially the biggest move of the offseason and it’s the first one and it happens before the Super Bowl. After getting interviews last year and being a potential candidate this year and more interviews, instead the Ravens lock down their offensive coordinator to return for his third season and beyond with Baltimore.

While Lamar Jackson deserves most, if not all, of the credit for his growth and execution of the offense, Monken’s addition to Baltimore was massive for the young signal caller. Instilling Jackson with the confidence and keys to run a full NFL offense. He’s revitalized a screen game that just hasn’t existed in the years of Jackson’s tenure.

Just look at 2024’s historic offense. In just the second year of Monken’s offense, Jackson unlocked new levels of play and had career best year after already winning two MVPs. Keeping Monken and maintaining the continuity as the Jackson and the Ravens continue to look to dethrone the chiefs the AFC...
