Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin will not play against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, the team announced on Friday.
Austin, who is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, was ruled out due to injury after missing all three practice sessions this week. A combination of Scotty Miller and Roman Wilson are expected to replace Austin at wide receiver, alongside DK Metcalf. The Steelers will also likely use more multiple-tight end packages with Austin, the team’s No. 2 receiver, out of action. Wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who was limited in practice earlier in the week due to illness, was a full participant on Friday and will play against the Browns.
The only other player listed on the team’s injury report is cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is questionable to play with a hamstring injury, also suffered against the Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. He was a full participant in practice on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday’s sessions. Brandin Echols will replace Ramsey if he’s unable to dress.
Running back Jaylen Warren (knee), outside linebacker Alex Highsmith (ankle) and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring) are all expected to return from injury this week.
Austin suffered a shoulder injury during the Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. He was transported from Croke Park to a local hospital for testing and returned to Pittsburgh with the team. He has yet to return to practice, and is expected to miss some time with the injury.
Ramsey injured his hamstring during the Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. He was able to return to the game, but is expected to miss some time due to the injury. He returned to practice on Friday, Oct. 10.
Warren suffered a knee injury in Week 3 that limited him in practice in the week leading up to the team’s Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was listed as questionable and was eventually made inactive for that game.
Warren is expected to return in Week 6, and was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Porter Jr. suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 against the New York Jets. Tomlin said he was held out as a precaution, but Porter missed the team’s Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks and Week 3 game against the New England Patriots. Porter returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday, Sept. 24, but still missed the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland.
He is expected to return for Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns and was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Highsmith was limited in practice on Friday, Sept. 12 — the first sign that there was a problem with his left ankle. He tried to play in Week 2...
