There have been far more moments of inconsistency than the Jacksonville Jaguars would like, but approaching Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline with a 5-3 record puts them in the category of potential buyers rather than sellers. They may even get Trevor Lawrence some more help.
Previous rumors questioned whether the Jags would move on from 2024 first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr, but that reportedly won’t be happening. That doesn’t mean the Jaguars won’t try to add some more reinforcements to their pass-catching corps.
According to The Athletic’s Mike Silver, the Jaguars could be one of the teams that are trying to trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. Adding fuel to the fire, Meyers was seen going out of his way to say hello to Jaguars executive vice president of football operations, Tony Boselli. Though, it should be noted that Boselli’s son, Adam, was Meyers’ teammate in college at North Carolina State.
The Jaguars could use more weapons for Lawrence, though with a young core comprised of Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas, they already have their starters entrenched. But that doesn’t mean having Meyers to complement their two star pass-catchers wouldn’t be beneficial to Liam Coen’s offense too.
Ultimately, Meyers wants to be traded, and the Jaguars represent a chance for him to reach the playoffs. It may be the type of deal that works out for all parties involved, but other teams are surely chasing after the former 1,000-yard receiver too.
