A social media detective uncovered a fascinating trend suggesting that the victor of Super Bowl 59 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles has already been decided.
Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game, while the Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts-led Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC title contest.
With that, the Chiefs and Eagles are now set to square off in Super Bowl 59 on Feb. 9 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This will mark the second big game meeting between the two teams in three seasons, with the Chiefs looking to complete the first Super Bowl three-peat.
X/Twitter user Jay Cuda uncovered an interesting piece of history that favors the Chiefs going into Super Bowl 59. Cuda notes that there have been eight Super Bowl games played in between the two teams (one team traveling west, another traveling east) in the 21st century.
And all eight times, the team traveling west has won the Super Bowl:
in this century every time the super bowl has been played in between the 2 teams – w/ 1 team traveling east, 1 traveling west – the team traveling west has won

So if history holds up, congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on their fourth Super Bowl title in six years — and to west-traveling teams making it 9-0 this century.
The Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl 57 two years ago, with Harrison Butker kicking a short field goal to win the game in the waning seconds. Philly won a subsequent rematch on ‘Monday Night Football’ in Kansas City in Week 11 of the 2023 season.
The two teams are practically evenly matched on paper, but it’s the Chiefs who open as a slight 1.5-point favorite over Philadelphia.
This is a reversal from Super Bowl 57, where the Eagles came in as the 1.5-point favorite. But as the Chiefs reminded everyone in their back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the betting favorite ultimately means nothing.
