It appears some Las Vegas Raiders fans want to see Aidan O’Connell climb the quarterback depth chart for the rest of this season.
Sunday, in his first game being on the 53-man roster this season, the third-year quarterback was the No. 3, emergency quarterback Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Thus, the only way he could have played in the game had their been injuries to starter Geno Smith and backup Kenny Pickett.
Pickett has been Smith’s backup all season. The Raiders traded a fifth-round draft pick to the Browns for Pickett two days after he O’Connell broke his wrist in the final preseason game. O’Connell had been on the injured reserve up until Week 12.
Earlier this week, we asked put community members would they rather have Pickett or O’Connell as the No. 2. About 60 percent of the voters were behind O’Connell.
Perhaps under interim offensive coordinator Greg Olson, that change will be made soon.
