Football fans were totally duped by a fake Adam Schefter X/Twitter account and its post about Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley.
The cover athlete for the upcoming EA Sports “Madden 26” video game has yet to be announced. The athlete is usually a quarterback, but San Francisco 49ers superstar RB Christian McCaffrey graced the cover for “Madden 25.”
A fan using a parody account of Schefter with the handle @AdamSche1fer posted a fake tweet about Saquon Barkley being named the cover athlete for Madden 26. Again, let us be clear that EA Sports has not announced a cover athlete yet:

Perhaps because the post was worded in Adam Schefter’s style, plenty of fans well for the fake post by @AdamSche1fer.

Hey, there’s always a chance that Barkley will be placed on the Madden cover. It’s not like they’ll keep going back to the same stars like Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, after all.
Barkley is coming off one of the greatest seasons for any player in league history, rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns. If the Eagles didn’t sit Barkley for their Week 18 finale, he could have broken Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 yards.
The 28-year-old helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl 59 title, rushing for 499 yards and five touchdowns in four postseason games.
