Social media detectives noticed the most remarkable coincidence after the latest failure to ban the Philadelphia Eagles’ signature “tush push” play.

The play has been virtually unstoppable for the Eagles, who started running the play frequently in the 2022 season. As if stopping Jalen Hurts behind one of the league’s best offensive lines isn’t hard enough, the star quarterback gets to enjoy an extra boost from the back.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers’ proposal to ban the tush push failed during Wednesday’s NFL spring meeting. The vote required 24 votes to pass, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the proposed ban fell short with a final tally of 22 in favor of the ban and 10 opposed.

If that 22-10 tally looks familiar to Packers and Eagles fans? As several fans on social media pointed out, 22-10 was also the score of Philadelphia’s Wild Card Round victory over Green Bay in January en route to a Super Bowl 59 championship:

“It failed 22-10 you said?” asked a fan with a screenshot of the Eagles’ playoff victory.

Hurts has racked up 42 rushing touchdowns since 2022, plus 10 more in the postseason. He opened the scoring in Super Bowl 59 against the Kansas City Chiefs with a touchdown on the tush push, as Philly cruised to a 40-22 blowout win.

The Tush Push Lives To Fight Another Year

It’s still very much a possibility that NFL teams will vote to ban the play down the line, especially if the Eagles continue to execute it to near-perfection. But the tush push is here to stay for now, meaning it won’t be any easier to stop the defending Super Bowl champions in 2025.
