Week 7 Sunday Night Football. Tonight we have an NFC matchup. The 4-2 San Francisco 49ers host the 3-2 Atlanta Falcons.
The Atlanta Falcons come into this game winners of two straight games, against 2024 playoff teams the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Commanders. They have beaten three 2024 playoff teams and lost by just three points to a fourth already this season. They have also gotten destroyed, 30 – 0, by a middling Carolina Panthers team. The Falcons boast the NFL’s #1 ranked defense in terms of yardage allowed, and the #2 ranked offense. They look formidable on paper, save for that inexplicable blowout loss to the Panthers.
The 49ers come into this game losers of two of their last three games after opening the season with three straight wins. The 49ers have been banged up this season, with quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and several wide receivers out for much of the year. The injuries have led to some struggles on offense, but the defense has been a problem as well, allowing 79 points over the last three games. Despite all this, the 49ers will be playing for a share of first place in the NFC West tonight.
