Skip Bayless is never shy to share his opinion, and he did just that in a recent rant on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ signing of Aaron Rodgers. Quite simply, he thinks the 41-year-old quarterback is washed.
“He was washed his last three years in Green Bay,” Bayless said in a video posted on X. “Go look at the numbers of his last three playoff games in Green Bay … I told the Jets he was washed… What has become of the Pittsburgh Steelers? I don’t hate them anymore, I pity them.”
Despite narratives that Rodgers is washed, it’s hard to dispute that he’s not the best quarterback the Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season.
Since 2022, Rodgers has 54 passing touchdowns. In that same time frame, the Steelers have had only 46 touchdown passes. Rodgers also had only one pass attempt in 2023 before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.
The four-time league MVP and future Hall of Fame quarterback showed he can still play good football last year with the New York Jets, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Of course, Rodgers is not the same player that he used to be, but he’s the best option for the Steelers in 2025.

NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed on ESPN that Rodgers was not the Steelers first option this offseason. He was actually third, behind Justin Fields and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
“This was the best move that the Pittsburgh Steelers could make right now,” Schefter said. “But, lets also remember, this was the third option for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were in on Matthew Stafford and couldn’t get done a trade. They tried to re-sign Justin Fields, he opted to go to the New York Jets where he will meet Aaron Rodgers on opening day. After they couldn’t get a trade done for Stafford and couldn’t get Fields re-signed, they pivoted to Aaron Rodgers. So Aaron Rodgers, right now, was their third choice.”
On Saturday, Schefter revealed the specific figures of Rodgers’ deal with the Steelers in a post on X.
“ESPN sources: Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers was in the team’s training facility today to sign his one-year, $13.65 million contract that includes $10 million guaranteed and has a maximum value of $19.5 million,” Schefter wrote. “The deal includes $5.85 million worth of playtime and team performance incentives.”
Rodgers putting pen to paper officially ends the months-long speculation as to whether he was going to suit up in the Steel City. Despite being the Steelers’ third choice, Rodgers was always the most realistic option for the Black and Gold. It really wasn’t a secret that Rodgers would eventually sign on the dotted line.
