Tyree Wilson has seen many defensive snaps as a defensive tackle in training camp and is embracing the role
The Las Vegas Raiders are in search of a player to step up with the release of Christian Wilkins. Losing Wilkins created a significant void in the interior of the defensive line, and the Raiders are exploring various options to bolster the rotation.
One option is to use Tyree Wilson at defensive tackle. Wilson is hoping for a breakout season in 2025 after two disappointing seasons, his first two years in the NFL. With Wilkins' departure, his role on the defensive line can be expanded to the interior. On Sunday, he spoke about what he meant to contribute to the team in his new role.
“Just trying to be versatile and just be capable of the rush wherever the team needs me. That’s been my focus in the OTAs and my focus now. So, when the season come, it’s no blinking, no matter what happens.”
He expanded on the adjustment to play a higher number of snaps inside.
“It’s a whole different ball game because the guard’s on you quick and plus you in the inside, so you’re making the rush right for the ends. You can’t just rush selflessly and hit any move and be three by one on the rush, and then the quarterback gets out. It is no point.”
If Wilson can maximize his role on the defense by playing inside, we might see him perform at the value he was selected at in 2023. Raider Nation has been waiting for Wilson to leap, and it could be the year in a revised role.
