Silver Minings: Pete Carroll has fond memories of Jim Harbaugh

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll joined the AFC West when he accepted the job from Mark Davis. One of his rivals during this decade became a part of the division the year before. That is Jim Harbaugh, who became the leader of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024, helping lead them back to the playoffs.

The history of these two dates back to their days as college coaches. When Carroll was at USC and Harbaugh at Stanford, an incident occurred after the game during the handshake between the coaches. Carroll was upset that Harbaugh went for two when he was up 48-21. It led to the classic “who do you think you are?” and the rivalry continued when both coaches joined the NFC West.

Now, it is back again with the first matchup of the year against the Chargers. Carroll, during his press conference, said he has fond memories of the former Michigan head coach.

“I remember Jim [Harbaugh]…No, I have no fond memories, I’m not going to go
there. They’ve been great games, that’s all. There’s been a bunch of them.”

Additionally, Harbaugh stated during his press conference that he wouldn’t be sending Carroll a Christmas card. This surprised Carroll because of the birthday card.

“Well, I’m surprised he would say that because he sends me a birthday card every year, so,
I don’t know what to tell you.”

The rivalry of these two former national champions helps create buzz for the Monday Night battle between two AFC West foes. The fireworks might fly on Monday.
