The Las Vegas Raiders’ defense has been off to a surprise start. Many in Raider Nation were expecting the offense to lead the way, but the defense has surprised by being ninth overall in total EPA.
One of the players who has a pleasant surprise is veteran safety turned linebacker Jamal Adams. According to PFF, Adams is the top-graded player on the Raiders’ defense. He has excelled as a blitzer and has displayed that he can make the transition to linebacker, playing the run.
Adams has caught the eye of his defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham. During his press conference on Thursday, he spoke about the former Seattle Seahawks leadership and what he adds to the locker room.
“The thing that stands out, he really enjoys the game of football. He’s a competitor. I
watched him from afar for a long time, but just to have him now within the system — he’s disruptive as a
blitzer. He’s disruptive as a force player in the run game. He’s disruptive in underneath coverage in terms
of just knowing how to match routes.“
With Adams starting to make plays and bring energy to the defense, fans should expect his snap count to increase. A signing that was not seen as impactful when it was done this offseason could end up being a steal for the Raiders.
