Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden had a conservation with Josh Jacobs about their time with the Raiders
Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was the Raiders for 8 seasons. His last tenure with the franchise ended abruptly with the leaking of emails written by Gruden that were problematic. The Raiders are on their fourth head coach since his departure, hopefully to find stability with Pete Carroll.
Gruden has been rebuilding his brand. Using social media to display his personality, fans started to fall in love once again with his upfront approach. It helped land him a deal with Barstool Sports to host his new show, which has been a success since he joined the network.
On his recent episode of Gruden Goes Long he got the opportunity to interview former Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs is now with the Green Bay Packers and had a bounce-back season in 2024. Gruden and Jacobs reminisced about their time together wearing silver and black.
“What a day draft day was, bringing you to the Raiders. You became the feature back, could’ve won rookie of the year had you not gotten hurt. I still think you should have won rookie of the year… I just want to thank you again, personally.”
Jacobs appreciated Gruden and said he was one of his favorite coaches.
“I want to thank you too, man! You took that chance on me and I tell people all the time that you’re one of my favorite coaches for sure.”
Jacobs was productive under Gruden during two 1000-yard seasons. Unfortunately, Raiders fans didn’t see them finish their time together when it was cut short in 2021. Gruden was connecting with the players, and it is now a mystery how the last few years under him would have panned out. Now, it is time to see what Pete Carroll can do to help rebuild the organization.
