Silver Minings: Jim Plunkett does not advance as senior HOF Nominee

The Las Vegas Raiders have a rich history of legendary players. It has led to them having 31 players inducted into the Hall of Fame with the hope for more in the coming years.

On Thursday, the NFL announced its senior nominees who are considered for the next stage of voting. Three Raiders advanced, including Matt Millen, Lester Hayes, and Art Powell. However, one player didn’t cut, and that was two-time Super Bowl champion Jim Plunkett.

While Millen, Hayes, and Art Powell are well deserving, Plunkett is not getting his respect. He is still the only quarterback with two Super Bowl wins who has not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The case against it is that he was a backup quarterback during those seasons, coming in for relief. Even with that said, two Super Bowls are two Super Bowls, and the NFL is fighting to put Eli Manning in, despite his unimpressive career outside of his two Super Bowls.

Hopefully, one day, Plunkett will earn the respect of voters and finally get his chance to stand on the podium.
