Silver Minings: Jakobi Meyers misses another practice

The Las Vegas Raiders’ Jakobi Meyers has been a productive player since signing in 2023. He had his first 1000-yard season in 2024, with the team struggling to find a consistent quarterback to get him the football.

While the front office thought they solved the problem with Geno Smith, it hasn’t translated onto the field. Smith has struggled this season with 10 interceptions in six games. Meyers, who started hot, hasn’t had more than 40 yards since Week three, while Tre Tucker has become the favorite for Smith, while Brock Bowers is out.

All of this has led to reports of the Raiders moving Meyers before the trade deadline. ESPN reported it earlier this week, and then Meyers missed practice on Wednesday, landing on the injury report. According to Chip Kelly, he was supposed to practice on Thursday.

“I think at this time, a lot of guys are banged up. I remember Jason
Kelce telling me a long time ago that the injury percentage of an NFL football player is 100, so everybody’s
going to get hurt, but he should go today, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Well Kelly was wrong with this assessment as Meyers missed his second practice in a row. He did not participate in Thursday’s practice.

The move by Meyers has led to more speculation about the team moving the former New England Patriot, as well as his frustrations. Meyers did demand a trade before the start of the season but the Raiders didn’t want to move him at the time. Everything could change if the Raiders lose to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
