It’s really easy for coaches to sway fans when they take over a new team. Identify the thing that fans find annoying about a team and say “We’re going to fix that.” For the Jets, one of many things was discipline, which new head coach Aaron Glenn has been verbal about addressing since taking over the team.
But talk is just that, talk. Former head coach Robert Saleh often talked about the need for the team to be disciplined… but they never were and it never seemed like they were really doing much to address it beyond talking about fixing it.
Aaron Glenn though? Aaron Glenn backed that up in preseason week 1 in two ways that stand in notable contrast to the man he replaced.
First, he saw defensive lineman Michael Clemons lose control for what feels like the 100th time to this Jets fan and sat him right on the bench rather than letting him continue on.
Second, he put a quick stop to cornerback Sauce Gardner’s desire to wear a Green Bay Packers cheese head for laughs, which was an image that went viral under Saleh’s watch in Gardner’s rookie year.
It’s early, but it sure seems like the similarities between Saleh and Glenn might end at each being a defensive coordinator turned head coach. What a welcome sight that would be if so.
