Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s whether the Steelers should start rookie quarterback Will Howard in the 2025 season.

There is obviously a chance that Howard, the team’s sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, wins the job outright. Mason Rudolph should not provide overwhelming competition and Aaron Rodgers still remains a free agent months into the offseason.

But what about if Howard doesn’t win the job? Should Mike Tomlin put his finger on the scale to play Howard, just so that they can see him before they have to make a decision about whether or not to draft a quarterback — and how highly — in the 2026 NFL Draft?

Alan breaks it down.
