Should Joe Burrow have stayed in vs. Commanders as long as he did?

Joe Burrow delivered another solid performance Monday night, going 9/14 for 62 yards and a touchdown on Monday Night Football against the Washington Commanders.

However, Burrow was sacked for a 17-yard loss after running around trying to extend the play to end the Bengals’ second drive. It was a hit and play so unnecessary that Burrow should have been done after that play. But whether it was his own choosing or head coach Zac Taylor’s choosing, he came back out for a third possession that extended into the second quarter.

On that third drive, Burrow was sacked again, but it was negated by a horse collar penalty. But Joe Burrow taking a horse collar shouldn’t be happening in the preseason. He should have thrown the ball away or, maybe, shouldn’t have been out there. Then again, maybe the Bengals need a new right guard. Hey, good thing Dalton Risner is visiting Tuesday.

Miraculously, despite being under heavy duress, Burrow still managed to end his third drive with a touchdown pass to Charlie Jones. Without Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Burrow still guided the offense 70 yards in 12 plays for a game-tying touchdown.

Burrow maybe wasn’t happy with the way the second drive ended, when Lucas Patrick practically surrendered as Burrow was trying to extend the play by running all over the field essentially. He certainly responded on the Bengals’ third offensive drive with a touchdown pass.

Over two preseason games, Burrow is 18/24 with 185 yards and three touchdown passes. That’s over five total drives. Sounds about right. Now go get a right guard, and go sign Trey Hendrickson.

Did the Bengals make the right call to keep Burrow in so long, or was it a reckless mistake?
