The 2025 NFL season was supposed to be different for Justin Herbert. He was in his second year with Jim Harbaugh as his head coach, and the team was headed to the playoffs again. The playoffs were supposed to play out much differently than in the past.

As more things change, even more tend to stay the same. The Chargers never had a shot of defeating the New England Patriots in the Wild Card round. Justin Herbert had one of his worst games of the year. Multiple times throughout the game, he would hike the ball and would have a defender in his face within a second.

The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback went 19-for-31 with 159 scoreless passing yards during the team’s 16-3 loss. He was bruised and battered throughout the contest. Not even the team signing an offensive tackle with a sketchy history was going to work for them.

Now, fans are convinced that Justin Herbert might retire soon for another career.

Will Justin Herbert Go Back to School To Be A Doctor?

Justin Herbert studied Biology at the University of Oregon and considered attending medical school. He was an elite college football player and was widely considered to be a top NFL prospect. However, in 2019, he made a vastly different decision and finalized his stay at the University of Oregon to complete his degree in Biology.

He graduated with a 4.01 GPA, was a teaching assistant, and led Oregon to a Pac-12 Championship. Herbert was awarded the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the “Academic Heisman.”

Many fans are now concerned that he might end up being a doctor instead of continuing his career.

At the NFL Combine, Herbert said in interviews that if he didn’t make it in football, he planned to go to medical school. He said, “That was always something I wanted to do.” One things for sure, he already knows about injuries. Herbert suffered a bone fracture in his left hand and needed surgery just a few months ago.
