Additional details regarding KaVontae Turpin’s arrest on Sunday morning have emerged following reports of the Dallas Cowboys All-Pro being taken into custody.
According to Collin County records, the 28-year-old was booked for possession of marijuana under two ounces, a Class B misdemeanor, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.
Bond was set at $1,500, with $1,000 attached to the weapons charge and $500 for the marijuana charge.
The arrest has taken place just two weeks away from the Cowboys beginning their training camp, and it remains to be seen how it might affect Turpin’s future with the team.
TMZ Sports has since learned that the player was pulled over in Texas around 11:49 p.m. after being clocked driving at 97 MPH in a 70 MPH zone in his 2022 Dodge. The Allen Police Department noted in an incident report obtained by the outlet that an unholstered pistol was seen in the back seat, and the cannabis was found later.
“During the traffic stop, authorities claim an unholstered 9MM pistol was seen “in plain view” in the back of the wide receiver’s ride,” the report reads. “Less than two ounces of weed, cops added, were later found in the car’s center console.”
KaVontae Turpin’s arrest is particularly noteworthy, given his rise as one of the most impactful players on the Dallas Cowboys roster. The former TCU standout entered the NFL via the USFL route, having been named MVP in 2022. He quickly established himself as one of the more electrifying returners in the league.
Turpin made a consecutive Pro Bowl appearance last season after making his first in 2023 and was also named a First-Team All-Pro in 2024, having led the NFL in kick return yards with an average of 33.5 yards. He also scored on both a punt and kickoff return, recording career highs from snaps at wide receiver and running back with 31 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 16 carries for 92 yards.
He signed a three-year, $18 million deal this offseason, becoming one of the highest-paid special teams players in league history.
