New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs was revealed to be facing serious criminal charges on Tuesday.
Additional details have since emerged.
Boston 25 News broke the story, revealing that the WR had been charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery. The charges reportedly stem from an incident that took place on December 2.
The Patriots beat the New York Giants in a ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup the previous night.
According to the publication, the player’s lawyer, Michael DiStefano, has requested that the details be kept confidential. So not much is known at the moment.
“As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that,” DiStefano said. A decision is expected today.
DiStefano’s noted that the alleged victim is an “employee” of Diggs, and the incident stems from a disagreement over money.
The Pats wideout is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, two days before the AFC Championship game. A judge has agreed to consider pushing it back to March.

No additional information was disclosed during the hearing on the motions.
Meanwhile, the Patriots have released a statement in response to the news of Diggs’ charges.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon,” it reads.
“We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
Steffon Diggs joined the Patriots on a three-year deal during the offseason. He spent the previous year with the Houston Texans following a four-year spell with the Buffalo Bills.
He has registered 82 receptions, 970 yards, and four touchdowns in 16 games this season.
The Pats remain in the hunt for the AFC’s No. 1 spot and a first-round playoff bye. They would secure it with a win over the Miami Dolphins and a loss by the Denver Broncos.
