The Las Vegas Raiders’ firing of head coach Pete Carroll was surely just the first of several drastic offseason changes in Sin City.
As most expected, Pete Carroll was fired on “Black Monday” after finishing the season 3-14. Las Vegas is reportedly eyeing Brian Flores, whose deal as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator is expiring.
Between the Carroll hiring, the failed Geno Smith trade and Maxx Crosby walking out of the facility ahead of Week 17, nothing went right for the Raiders.
Kalyn Kahler and Ryan McFadden of ESPN shared an in-depth story about all of the Raiders’ drama and dysfunction this year. The story included an interesting tidbit about how the players had to hold their own meetings to discuss the offensive line plans.
Needless to say, it paints a bad picture of Raiders offensive line coach Brennan Carroll, Pete Carroll’s son:
“An agent of a Raiders offensive lineman said that his client told him the position group met multiple times on their own with Smith and Jeanty, and specifically without coaches, so the quarterback and running back could talk to them about how they wanted the offensive line to create blocks.”
“It was that bad,” an agent told ESPN. “They were meeting on their own and trying to figure it out together, which I have never heard of in my history of working in this league.”
Another agent told ESPN, “Brennan Carroll rushed players through individual drills at practice and didn’t teach them what they were trying to achieve in specific drills.”
Brennan Carroll remains the Raiders’ offensive line coach for the time being. Of course, that could change in the coming weeks.
ESPN’s damning report also points the finger at minority owner Tom Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl champion wanted Ben Johnson, but he went to the Chicago Bears before Vegas made an offer.
Brady reportedly shut down the Raiders’ plans to get Sam Darnold. That man just led the Seattle Seahawks to a 14-3 season. Smith had 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 15 games.
The Raiders have been a laughingstock for two decades and counting. Carroll is hardly the reason why the football team was such a mess in 2025. This is just how the franchise is under Mark Davis.
