Houston Texans star running back Joe Mixon received a worrisome injury update that suddenly puts his 2025 season in jeopardy.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Joe Mixon “is expected to be out an extended period of time with” what was described as “a frustrating foot injury.” Mixon is currently on the non-football injury list.

Rapoport’s NFL Network colleague, Jane Slater, added that the injury relates to a right foot/ankle issue that Mixon dealt with twice last season. The exact injury hasn’t been disclosed.
I’m told he injured his right foot/ankle twice last year and this is a 3rd injury to it. https://t.co/AuiUIB92wP

The Texans acquired Joe Mixon in a 2024 offseason trade with the Cincinnati Bengals, following rumors that his old team would cut him in a cap-saving move. He earned his second career Pro Bowl nod in year one with Houston, rushing for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games.
Mixon led the Texans to a second straight AFC South division crown, despite numerous injuries to key players (namely Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell) on offense. Houston defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.
A five-time 1,000-yard rusher, Mixon has 7,428 yards and 60 touchdowns over his first eight NFL seasons.
We’ll have to wait and see if Mixon gets clearance in time for the season opener, but the Texans will kick off the 2025 campaign against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.
