He broke down that decision in a recent training camp interview. He doesn’t want to create another potential distraction.

Sanders has played for his father dating back to high school. As a result, nepotism claims have followed.

Those cries became much louder when the quarterback followed the coach to Colorado as a junior. He was seemingly handed the keys to the offense upon arriving to campus.

College football fans had plenty of opinions on his winning the starting job.

Shedeur Sanders doesn’t want another distraction.

His college career was filled with them. Despite leading a one-win program to 13 victories across two seasons, much of the discussion surrounding his time in Boulder was negative.

It largely revolved around off-the-field narratives. Supposed ego and attitude issues were a popular topic of discussion, and one that followed him into the NFL.

Nepotism, too, was a talking point particularly after he had his jersey retired by the Buffs in 2024.

The link between the passer and his father was impossible to escape due to the coach-player relationship. Now, he has an opportunity to create his own path as a pro.

Deion Sanders is not welcome at Cleveland Browns practice.

Shedeur Sanders doesn’t want him there. Here’s what he had to say in a recent media appearance at training camp.

The passer is currently in a heated quarterback battle for the starting role. At the moment, he appears to be buried on the depth chart.

Reports from camp suggest that the team is looking at Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel as potential QB1 contenders. Sanders is not getting first-team reps.

The rookie doesn’t want to have his dad on hand for a number of reasons.

First, he wants to work his way into a more notable role before having his dad cheerleading on the sidelines. Second, he doesn’t want a “distraction” to take away from the team.

Shedeur Sanders knows how the media can spin a story. He believes the practice ban to be best.

He doesn’t want to see any speculation of his dad pulling strings on his NFL career as they were prominent throughout the draft process.

The decision shows growth and maturity as he moves into his professional tenure. Sanders is putting the team first as he looks to make an impact as a rookie.
